CAD Basics CNC Machining and how to Learn CAD

August 27th, 2008 tyhuls Posted in CNC Information, News | No Comments »

CAD, which stands for Computer Aided Design is an important component in Computer Numerical Control. Ivan Irons has started a new page on his Computer Numerical Control website that is all about CAD Information and CAD Basics for those who are either new to Computer Aided Design, new to Computer Numerical Control CAD, or just want a little bit of a refresher on the basics of Computer Aided Design. You can visit this specific page at: CNC Machining

On his new CAD Information page, Ivan takes users through the basics of CAD and discusses when Computer Aided Design was invented and how it came about that we started using Computer Aided Design in our everyday lives. Computer Aided Design is used in plenty of other industries besides Computer Numerical Control, such as air equipment, machine equipment, house design, landscaping, and the list goes on and on. See some other places CAD is used at Ivan’s CAD Info webpage at: CNC Plasma

Ivan also goes briefly into Computer Aided Design that is two dimensional or 2-D versus Computer Aided Design that is three dimensional or 3-D. Ivan talks about the uses for 2D versus 3D and the trends in the Computer Aided Design world to becoming all three dimensional in the next few years. You can see Ivan’s discussion on CAD 2D versus 3D at: CNC Machines

Also on Ivan’s CAD page are various articles that relate to CAD basics. Some of these articles include a more detailed explanation of what CAD is and how it works. These articles will consistently be updated to reflect the latest and greatest information on CAD in the Computer Numerical Control Industry so check back at Ivan’s website often for the latest information.

CNC Plasma Art along with CNC Machining Files

August 26th, 2008 tyhuls Posted in CNC Information | No Comments »

CNC Art Files can now be found on the CNC Plasma Art category page on CNCInformation.com. The CNC Art Project finished up a previously started CNC Art Project on a CNC Made Stomp Pad.

CNC Art Project has just been completed by Ivan Irons and CNCInformation.com. His CNC Plasma Art project on a snowboard stomp pad is now officially complete on his new CNC Art Files webpage. The video’s have been released for about a month or so, however, they had yet to be posted on Ivan’s CNC Plasma Art page on this website. Video’s 1-5, along with their transcripts, were released last week. The video’s can be viewed at: CNC Machining

Here is a brief description of what Video’s 6-10 entail: Video 6: Ivan shows how he zeros out the cnc plasma cutter and starts cutting the aluminum stomp pad.

Video 7: In this video Ivan rough grinds the cnc stomp pad to remove the dross.

Video 8: Ivan sands our CNC Stomp Pad with a Dual Action (DA) sander.

Video 9: In this video the holes are drilled in the CNC Stomp Pad. We bend the stomp pad while drilling and we must hammer it flat next.

Video 10: In this video, Ivan goes over the final assembly of the stomp pad. Then we watch as we used double-sided tape to adhere it to the snowboard.

View the video’s for free in their entirety and enjoy Ivan’s unique CNC Art Project at: CNC Plasma

Not only has Ivan released the stomp pad art videos, he has also created and released transcripts of each video. He hopes these transcripts will aid in the learning process by giving the DIY CNCer a reference for future learning. Learn DIY CNC Machining – Hobby CNC Plasma Cutter

August 26th, 2008 tyhuls Posted in CNC Information | No Comments »

Ivan Irons at CNC Plasma has just completed the second phase of a new video tutorial series on a CNC Stomp Pad Project that is shot in sequential steps. This final phase highlights the machining and finishing steps of his project. It is a step-by-step personal account of a CNC project from the design phase to the end product. It contains useful design and machining tips for all CNC enthusiasts.

The video tutorial series was made to take beginner to intermediate CNC hobbyists through the major steps in the CNC process. Ivan narrates each video with technical, yet easy to understand descriptions of the process along with useful personal tips from his CNC experience. Ivan’s video series starts out with the design phase, which includes all of the computer design, CAD, and CAM work. These first four video’s were released earlier in the month and now the conclusion of the project has been released with video’s 5-10 which highlight the CNC plasma cutting, grinding, and end product. If you missed the first four video’s they can be viewed at: CNC Machining

Here is a summary of video’s 5-8:

Video 5: In this video Ivan goes through Mach 3 to look over the g-code. He checks to see if we have any problems before we go to the CNC Plasma Cutter.

Video 6: Ivan heads out to the shop and do some work. He shows how he zeros out the cnc plasma cutter and starts cutting the aluminum stomp pad. Once he is done, the stomp pad gets looked over and he notes the slag or dross we will have to grind off next.

Video 7: In this video Ivan rough grinds the cnc stomp pad to remove the dross. It’s a rough grind because later we will use a DA Sander to smooth it all out.

Video 8: During this CNC Video Segment Ivan sands our CNC Stomp Pad with a Dual Action (DA) sander. The CNC Plasma Cut part then is taken over to a stand. Then Ivan starts to look at different traction spikes and how they will look.

Video 9: In this video the holes are drilled in the CNC Stomp Pad. The holes are drilled and then Ivan cleansthem out.
We bend the stomp pad while drilling and we must hammer it flat next.

Video 10:Here is the final video in the CNC Stomp Pad Tutorial Video Series. In this video, Ivan goes over the final assembly of the stomp pad. Then we watch as we used double sided tape to adhere it to the snowboard. Finally we take a look at some final photos of the CNC Stomp Pad on the Snowboard.

Ivan has created a unique and personalized video tutorial series that that leaves the viewer anticipating the next video in the series. The complete video series from start to finish can be viewed at:CNC Router .  You can always check on Ivan’s website to find his latest CNC projects and Hobby CNC Information.

Ivan Irons at CNC has just completed a new CNC Basic E-Course learning series about the CNC Process. Ivan has just completed video three, which discusses CAD, in the series of 6 video’s; video’s one and two were previously released. It is a seven part video course that walks an amateur through the basic process of CNC. It contains many useful topics and instructions to help beginner CNC enthusiasts. The CNC basics E-Course is a video series that was created for the CNC Beginner to give a brief overview of the major steps of the CNC process.  Ivan made sure to use simple language to explain complex processes and narrates each video with his own personal tips included.  The six videos in the basic E-Course will cover the five prominent steps in CNC: DesignCadCamControllingMachining

The videos in this basics series that have been released can be found at: CNC Machine

Video 3:In this CNC Basics Video Ivan takes the listener through CAD. CAD Stands for Computer Aided Design. Ivan explains in detail that during the CAD step we take our initial design and translate it into the computer. He walks you through this CNC step and shows you how one can change the design, resize it, save it, transfer it to someone else, etc. During this CAD video Ivan also teaches how to design parts, then assemblies, then groups, then machines.  Ivan seems to have a talent for taking a complex topic such as CNC, picking out the most important aspects, and breaking down those topics into laymen terms. Ivan has started a fantastic CNC basic E-course. Video’s 4 thru 6 in the series are set to release in January of 2008. You can find the CNC Basic E-Course Video’s at Ivans Blog: http://www.cncinformation.com/CNCBlog/.  You can always check on Ivan’s website at CNC Software to find his latest CNC projects and video’s. About CNC Information:
